Kassouf Symposium: Interns explore trending topics like AI, cryptocurrency, and blockchain in accounting

When their Kassouf internship begins, students complete many of the typical tasks associated with a new job: completing paperwork, training, and getting to know their coworkers. In addition to these usual to-do’s, they also select a research topic for the Kassouf Symposium. From AI to cryptocurrency, interns present their findings about accounting’s hottest topics.

The symposium includes two portions, academic and culture. The academic portion centers on an individual research project. This year’s topics included the following:

  • Blockchain Technology in Accounting
  • AI and Accounting
  • Creating Future Accountants
  • Data Analytics and Forecasting
  • Data Security
  • Increasing Diversity in Accounting
  • Navigating Succession Planning for Business Owners
  • Employee Engagement and Retention
  • Bridging Gaps in the Multigenerational Workplace
  • Enhancing the Client Experience and Mapping the Client Journey
  • Cyrptocurrency’s Impact on Tax and Advisory Services
  • Advising Clients through Economic Uncertainty

The culture portion challenged interns to propose an employee engagement or recruitment initiative for the firm. Ideas included an awards ceremony like The Office’s Dundies, service projects, and campus socials.

Interns presented both the academic and culture findings to our firm’s leadership group for feedback and scoring.
